Adam's Review
Blossom tales is clearly a homage to LTTP, and you can tell right away it was made by a big fan of the original game.
However where I feel like a game like LTTP a showpiece of its time, Blossom Tales just feels like a shortcoming of its time. It's hard to escape the feeling that it's not shell something that already exists, and stays too close within a templated design of a 20+ year old formula.
While it does it's best to add in modern design sensibilities on to some dated mechanics, streamlining a historically tedious game mechanics isn't enough to make it stand on its own. Blossom tale spends too much time playing close to its source materials while not taking any creative risks or any innovations. Overall this holds back the game from achieving anything beyond "good".
I would argue that where it does try to innovate, is the least important. The way the story is told.
I could most likely sit down and play a game like LTTP today and enjoy it, but my nostalgia & appreciation for the time it was created plays a big part in my enjoyment. Without the childhood memories, historical knowledge, limitations of the time, and having experienced something that I would argue is already better I didn't find much to enjoy here.
If you're really looking for something that is just like LTTP, you've found it. But In the end you are left with a game that plays like a "improved" fan tribute of a game. Words that come to mind are "samey" "budget"

Eric's Review
Blossom Tales 4/10 Overall a very uninspired game that felt like a chore to play.
Story 1.5/10 - Not a lot here. Might as well be non existent. The king is put under a curse and random girl with a grandmother sets out on a quest to wake him up. No story, no character investment. They try to be funny in narration, but they aren't at all. I'll give them a .5 for effort.
Art/Graphics 6/10 - It looks ok for what it is, but 2d pixels in this day and age for an adventure game is just plain lazy.
Music/Sound 4/10 - A very forgettable bgm. I actually put on regular music to listen to while doing the final dungeon.
Combat/Gameplay 3/10 - In the beginning of the game you are just mashing your sword until things die. Then once you unlock usable equipment, gameplay evolves into spam your equipment until you are out of stamina and then use your sword. Two equipment slots is archaic and having to go into your inventory to switch to a potion or shield for certain enemies is just annoying. There's also no diagonal input in the game for weapons. The puzzles in the game are just rip off zelda puzzles which are fun for 8 year olds sure, but after doing them for a couple decades I'd be happy if I never had to another one again. Also some puzzles are just plain bad like the one before the fire boss. You literally just go in a circle and hit all the activators to open a door... Also walking along skinny falling floors while dodging enemies and memorizing which order the singing stones made sounds is not enjoyable gameplay.
The most enjoyable things I did in the game was deliver mail. Delivering mail gave more backstory on characters than the whole main story ever did for any character. The only time I ever felt the characters had any personality was when they would react to the mail they received.
